Olympic basketball tiebreaker rules explained
In the men’s and women’s tournaments, countries were divided into three groups of four teams.
Eight of the 12 countries advance to the single-elimination knockout stage: the top two teams from each group and two wild cards, which will be determined by a playoff.

The first tiebreaker is the head-to-head results.If two countries draw and play each other during the group stage, the winning team will advance to the knockout stage.

Explanation of the classification for the knockout phase of Olympic basketball
Once the ties are broken and the field is reduced to eight teams, the single-elimination knockout stage bracket is constructed.
Each team is assigned a spot, from 1 to 8, based on the tiebreaker criteria above. As in most playoff systems, the bracket will look like this:

The only problem is that teams from the same group cannot play each other in the first round of the knockout phase.
