Ryan Garcia is not taking his suspension from the New York State Athletic Commission well.
After news emerged that Garcia had been suspended for a year after testing positive for banned substances following his April 20 fight against Devin Haney, the boxer vented on social media about his punishment.
Garcia (25-1, 1 NC) will pay a $10,000 fine and forfeit his $1.1 million purse to Golden Boy Promotions.
García, 25, maintains his innocence and says he is retiring from the sport.
“Am [angry face emoji]”Garcia wrote in X. “I really hope boxing is good without me. I fought everyone and I was willing to do it. they have become [their] back to me. I’m innocent. I maintain that I don’t care what everyone says. Gun [to] in my head I say I didn’t take PEDs.
“Boxing is DEAD DEAD [skull emoji]. Boxing messes with the wrong guy.”
During his rant, Garcia also stated that he was moving to the UFC.
“I’m headed to the UFC,” he wrote. “Dana, I want my 50 gs. Seriously, Dana White contacted me.”
On Instagram, Garcia added: Hey, watch this crybaby get what he wants. I never cheated. I got banned for a year, I HATE ALL FAKE PEOPLE AHHH.
“Boxing sucks. I’m going to the UFC.”
While the move would be exciting and Dana would likely be open to the option, a suspension by the New York State Athletic Commission would prevent Garcia from entering the cage, much like boxing.
Along with his suspension, fine and forfeiture of his purse, Garcia’s majority decision victory has been nullified by a no-contest result.
The WBC super lightweight title was not at stake for the Haney-Garcia fight, because Garcia didn’t make weight.
