Shane Gillis continues his comeback tour with a new scripted series, premiering on Netflix In May.

The six-episode workplace comedy, titled Tires – is based on a pilot concept that Gillis previously posted on YouTube, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It will follow a “nervous, hardcore heir to an auto repair chain” who “tries to turn around his father’s business despite constant torture from his cousin and now employee.”

In addition to starring in the series, Gillis will serve as executive producer, writer and co-creator. Tires It will also star Steven Gerben, Chris O’Connor, Kilah Fox and Stavros Halkias and will feature special appearances by Andrew Schulz. THR reports.

The news comes just days after Gillis made his long-awaited return to Saturday night live after being fired in 2019 for doing racist and homophobic jokes on a podcast.

“I’m a boundary-pushing comedian,” Gillis posted on X following the controversy. “Sometimes I fail. If you look back at my 10 years of comedy, most of it bad, you’ll find a lot of bad mistakes. “I am pleased to apologize to anyone who has been truly offended by anything I have said.”

The comedian even poked fun at his firing at the beginning of his eight-minute opening monologue during Saturday night’s taping (Feb. 24).

“Most of you probably have no idea who I am. “I actually got fired from this show a while ago,” she said, according to Entertainment tonight. “But, you know, don’t look for that, please. If you don’t know who I am, don’t Google that. Alright. Don’t even worry about it.”

Gillis hit an awkward snag after joking about his family members having Down syndrome, noting that “they’re doing better than everyone I know” and “they’re the only ones who consistently have a pretty good time,” according to Page six.

After revealing that his niece has Down syndrome, he said: “[I] I thought that was going to get a bigger laugh… This place is extremely well lit. “I can see that everyone doesn’t enjoy it.”

Despite the controversial jokes, fan favorite Bowen Yang still gave Gillis a big hug during their final goodbye at the end of the episode.

Tires will premiere on Netflix on May 23.
