The Milwaukee Bucks have failed to achieve their ultimate goal over the past three years. If the team doesn’t find success soon, the Eastern Conference contender could be headed for a rebuild.
The Bucks won the NBA championship in 2021, but since then, Milwaukee has undergone numerous personnel changes and major roster changes. If the team can’t find a winning formula quickly, it could be back to square one sooner or later.
“One (trade) that I think will always be watched in the NBA is if the Bucks lose their footing,” The Athletic’s Sam Amick said on “The TK Show.” “We know Joe Lacob has long dreamed of Giannis (Antetokounmpo) joining the Golden State Warriors. Again, it’s unlikely, but Khris Middleton is a free agent next summer. I think Giannis is worth watching.”
Antetokounmpo was selected in the first round of the 2013 NBA draft by the Bucks. It took the Greek product a few years to break out, but he quickly became a superstar for the team during the 2016-17 season. During his 11 seasons in Milwaukee, the forward became a two-time MVP, eight-time All-Star and one-time Defensive Player of the Year.
It would be a shock to see the Bucks let their star leave at any point in his career, but with Antetokounmpo making it clear he’s determined to win if the team doesn’t turn things around soon, it’s questionable whether the 29-year-old would force his way out of Milwaukee.
On the Warriors side, Lacob is no rookie when it comes to making big-money moves with his team. If a star like Antetokounmpo were to become available, he could very well give general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. the green light to do whatever he can to make a deal.
While it takes two to tango to make a deal happen, an inside source leaking this information could be something worth keeping an eye on as the season approaches.
