How to change location in Discord

If you are having problems with voice communication in Discord, the process of changing your region or location may alleviate the problem. When you first create your Discord account, Discord can automatically choose the voice server closest to you for the best performance; However, Discord doesn’t always choose the best server for you.

How to change the region in Discord

Remember, to change the server, You must be the owner of the server or have a role within a server where you have your own administrator server permissions enabled. If any of these are true, we can change the voice server location settings.

First, click the down arrow to open your server options.

Then click on the option that says Server configuration.

Click ‘Change’

Now, in the section that says Server Region, press the button that says Change. It should be closer to the right side of the application window.

Finally, choose a location that you think would be the closest to your physical location. In my case this would be ‘Eastern US‘. But, if you live in California or Washington state, you’d better choose Western US.

Simply select what you think would be closest to you. If one turns out to be slower than the other, you can always go in, change the server location again, and see if your latency improves.

Click one of the voice server locations to save your changes. One of the cool things about Discord is that after changing a server, there will be less than a second of voice interruption. That being said, changing your server won’t ruin any ongoing conversations that are currently happening.

If you’re trying to change your location but don’t see the Server Settings option, it’s probably because you don’t have permission to access these settings. Instead of the menu above, you will see this:

Assuming the latency or voice quality is really terrible, contact the server administrators and ask them to enable the “Manage Server” feature for you. Once they have done this, you can proceed to update your location for your server.

Server administrators and owners can revoke the feature once you’ve made the change if they wish.

Set up a location on a new server

If you plan to set up a new server on Discord, the app makes it easy to choose the most optimal voice server location for your server from the start.

To get started, press the ‘+’ button in the server navigation column on the left. When the option appears, press the button Create a server button.

On the next screen, you will be asked to name your server and then select the Server region. Press the button that says, Changeand you will be able to choose from the list of voice server regions like we did before. Click on the region that would be most optimal and the changes will be saved automatically.

Finally, press the Create button. Invite some friends, see how the voice server works, and if the latency is a little high, you can always change the location of the voice server again by following the steps above.

How to change the time/hour display in Discord

Discord uses the system time to update the time in the app. To change the time on Discords, you’ll need to change the time on your computer or mobile device. Go to settings and change the time there.

You can’t actually change the time display in Discord manually, but there is a way to fix this strange customization error.

To change the time to a 24-hour display, you will need to change the language or location of your Discord. This can be done in your settings and is not automatically updated by the app. Japan, for example, uses time display in 24-hour format. Changing your location to Japan will automatically change your clock from 12 hours to 24 hours. To change it back, select Canada, the United States, or any location with a 12-hour time display.

Changing the date display from DD/MM/YYYY to MM/DD/YYYY or vice versa requires you to do the same. MM/DD/YYYY is pretty much only used in the United States, but setting your language to English will automatically have the month appear before the date. Changing the language to Spanish will solve that problem.
