How to delete your profile photo on Twitter

There is no way to delete your Twitter profile photo. That is, you cannot delete the image and return to the default avatar.

Previously, you could click or tap the image, select Delete, and the image would disappear. However, Twitter decided to get rid of this option.

Therefore, this article will focus on changing your profile photo, rather than deleting it. And it also includes some other customizations.

Change your Twitter profile image

Changing your profile photo is a piece of cake, and it’s the same on Twitter for mobile and desktop. This is what you should do.

1. Launch Twitter and sign in if necessary.
   
2. Click or tap on the Profile icon.
   
3. On the next screen, tap Profileand then select the Edit profile button below the header image.
   
4. choose the small one camera icon in the middle of the profile photo.
   
   • As a side note, you have to press the button camera icon Perfect if you are making changes through the desktop.
5. Either way, you will land on your Camera Roll/Gallery or your local drive. Select the image you want to use and reposition it to fit the small circle.

Make sure you choose the image that is properly centered because Twitter doesn’t offer much wiggle room when it comes to image repositioning. And if you’re using your mobile device, you can always take a selfie and use it as your profile photo.

Tricks the system to make it look like you don’t have a profile picture

As said, there is no way to delete the image and return to the default avatar. But this doesn’t mean you can’t make it look like you did.

Twitter’s default avatar is now a highly stylized human silhouette in two shades of gray. You can download this image to your smartphone or computer and set it as your profile picture.

And if you loved the Twitter avatar egg that was retired a few years ago, feel free to use it as your profile photo.

Note: Interestingly, Twitter does not save your profile or header images in Media. And these images are nowhere to be found in Settings or any other menu.

How to remove header image

If you don’t like the header image, Twitter allows you to delete it.

1. On mobile devices and desktop, you select your profile picturehit Edit profile.
2. If you’re doing this from a smartphone, tap the header image and choose Remove header in the pop-up menu.
3. On the other hand, if you decide to do it through the desktop, there is a great x Click on it to delete the image.

The default header background looks a bit bland. It is light blue on mobile and desktop Twitter. Therefore, you may want to upload a more animated image.

Other Twitter customizations

There’s not much you can do in terms of profile customizations. Twitter allows you to add a biography, location, website, and your date of birth.

1. Adding a location is the easiest because Twitter detects your whereabouts. That is unless you have unchecked the options in Customize your experience when you installed the app.
   • So, you tap on the location bar and choose the first one from the drop-down menu. On a desktop computer, you will need to add the address manually.
2. As for the date of birth and the website, you will need to tap on the assigned section and type or select your preferences there. But there is one peculiar thing. Twitter allows you to change your date of birth only a few times.
3. Finally, the bio is where you can express your creativity in 160 characters. Depending on what you use Twitter for, you can make the bio as fun or as serious as you want.

Important note: Twitter always shows the month and year you joined the social network. There is no way to delete or change this information.

Additional tip

To keep up with the competition, Twitter introduced display customizations. But there is a difference in the customizations. The mobile app includes sounds, while the desktop version does not. Following a similar logic, the desktop version features six color options, but the mobile does not.

1. To access it via a mobile device, press your profile iconchoose Settings and Privacy > Screen and sound.
2. On a desktop, click the three horizontal points and select Show.

Although there are some quirky limitations, Twitter is still one of the most powerful social networks for expressing your thoughts. And it doesn’t matter what kind of profile photo or header you get. The trick with Twitter is to have witty posts and comments.
