Installing Chrome Extensions
The IG Story Chrome extension is a great option to hide Instagram comments. While this extension offers a variety of useful features, there is one downside: you’ll have to use it on your desktop.
If you don’t mind using Instagram on your desktop, follow these instructions to get the extension:
- Open Google Chrome.
- Find the Chrome IG History extension.
- Click Add to Chrome.
- Click Add extension.
The extension may take a moment to install. When it’s done, you’ll see a pop-up window announcing that it’s ready to use. You can access the extension at any time by looking at the top right corner of your browser window and clicking on the icon.

Can you block certain words on Instagram?
There is a way to filter specific words on Instagramand you can hide inappropriate comments so they don’t appear on a live video or on any of your posts. This is on by default, so you don’t need to turn it on or off yourself. However, if you want to turn on inappropriate comments, you can do so.
To filter comments in the Instagram app for Android and iOS devices:
- Go to your profile and tap the Hamburger icon.

To filter comments on your computer or mobile browser:
- Go to instagram.com on your computer or mobile device and click on your profile picture and then click Settings.
- Click Privacy & Security > Edit comment settings.
- Enter specific words, phrases, numbers, or emoji in the text box to filter comments, and then click Deliver. You can also click to check the box next to Use default keywords to hide comments containing commonly reported keywords in your posts.
How to report comments on Instagram
If you are required to use Instagram Live on your mobile device and therefore cannot turn off comments while watching a video, you can report any harmful or derogatory comments.
Here’s what you’ll need to do to report a comment:
- Tap on the chat icon in the video, long press the comment and tap the Report comment in the menu that appears.
- Choose any of the two Spam or scam either Abusive contentwhichever applies to this comment.
- Follow the prompts and explain why you think this comment is wrong.
Once this is done, your report will be sent to Instagram for review.
