Discord servers are one of the most popular ways for like-minded people to get together and discuss their favorite topics. There is a limit to how many members a server can contain, but it is still a large number. What if you have a large server and want to check how many members there are?
Fortunately, there are a few ways to find out how many Discord users are on your server. Whether through the default UI or with the help of bots, there is something for everyone.
How to Show Member Count in Discord on PC
Each Discord server already shows the number of online or offline users. On PC, you can see these numbers on the right side of the screen. While this is convenient for sparsely populated servers, the default member count isn’t great for large ones.
Large servers should not use this tab because after exceeding 1000 members, Discord does not show how many members are offline.
Using the tab on the right side of the screen
If your server is small, these simple steps will allow you to see how many members there are on your server:
- Launch the Discord client or web version in a browser.
- Click the server you want to verify.
- Look to the right side of the screen.
- By scrolling up and down, you can see the number of people online or offline.
If your server only has about 10 members, you may not even need to scroll down. Your monitor or screen may be large enough to display all the names.
Access server settings
Admins and mods or anyone with permission can access the settings of a Discord server. In the “Server Settings” menu there is an option to view the number of members. Unfortunately, normal users cannot see these numbers on PC.
Here’s how to access server settings:
- Start Discord.
- Go to the server you want to verify.
- Click the arrow next to the server name.
- Select “Server Settings.”
- Go to “Members” to see how many there are.
Getting there is extremely easy, but only those with administrator permissions can see it. If you want all users to see the statistics, it’s not the end of the world. The next section will allow you to do this.
Using member count
Scrolling down for a few minutes to count how many members populate a server is a tedious task. You may even count wrong. Fortunately, Discord bot developers have created more than one solution. This solution works even for non-admins.
Enter Member Count, a bot dedicated exclusively to counting members and more. It is currently present on at least 400,000 servers and the number will continue to grow. With Member Count, you will no longer be in the dark about your server statistics.
Member Count features include:
- Counting members
- Count users with specific roles
- Split members into online or offline statuses
Here’s how to use Member Count and find out how many Discord users hang out on your big server:
- As an administrator, invite Member Count to the server.
- Select the channel to specify the bot invitation.
- Click “Authorize.”
- Go to any text channel.
- Guy “
m!setup” and press “Enter”.
- You’ll see some new voice channels that show you your stats, including member count.
- Feel free to remove any statistics you don’t want to have.
These statistics are visible to everyone, unlike the previous one that required access to server settings. All server users can track member count and celebrate upon reaching a milestone.
Other robots
Member Count is not the only bot you can use to determine how many users are on a server. Popular robots like Dyno also have commands that allow you to check. For Dyno, it is “?membercount” with a 10 second cooldown.
All Discord bots are different and you will have to learn the commands inpidually if they have the member counting feature. If you already have some bots on your server, go ahead and check out their documentation. You never know if one or more of your bots can already provide you with these statistics.
As with Member Count, you must invite the bot to your server. Depending on the bot, you may also need to configure it before using the commands.
How to show member count in Discord on iPhone app
Discord on the iPhone may seem smaller and more congested, but it’s still a powerful app. The tab on the right is not normally visible, but swiping right will show it. You can also scroll up and down to see who is online or offline.
Just like on PC, the offline tab disappears when the server reaches 1000 members. As such, you will have to trust the bots or check the server configuration.
Here’s how to check the bar on the right:
- Open the Discord app on your iPhone.
- Open any server you want to check.
- Slide your screen to the right.
- Scroll up and down if necessary to check how many members are online or offline.
- Swipe left to close the screen.
Tapping the server name on iPhone
While you need to have administrator permission on PC, Discord on mobile is different. All you need is to be on a server to check how many members are present. Let’s take a look at the instructions.
- On your iPhone, open the Discord app.
- Go to a server.
- Tap the server name.
- Scroll down to check the member count.
These steps take no time and you can check them even if you are just a regular member without admin permissions.
Add Member Count on iPhone
Adding a bot to your server on iPhone is not much different than doing so on a PC. You just need to know which bot you want and have Discord for your iPhone. Aside from that, you’ll also need to make sure your server accepts bots.
This is what adding the number of members looks like on iPhone:
- First, go to your server.
- Go to server settings.
- Make sure you have permission to add bots.
- Head to the official Member Count website in any browser.
- Invite the robot.
- Choose the server you want to invite Member Count to.
- Grant Member Count all necessary permissions.
- Tap “Authorize.”
- Then type “
m!setup” on any text channel.
- The member count will appear as a voice channel from now on.
All of these steps are useful for adding other bots to the server, except the configuration part. Each bot has its configuration procedures, which you must follow. If you already have bots with member count commands, running them will be enough.
How to show member count in Discord in Android app
Android users can also check the member count of any server. Discord for Android is virtually identical to its iPhone counterpart. Because of this, you can follow the same steps as on iPhone.
To check the tab on the right side of the screen, follow these steps:
- Open Discord for Android.
- Navigate to any server.
- Swipe right.
- Here you can check the member count if it is a smaller server.
Tapping server name in Android
Android users also don’t have to be admins and mods to check each server’s member count. All they have to do is tap on the server name and locate the option. You can find out the number of users of your favorite server on Android this way:
- Go to any server.
- Look for the server name near the top of the screen.
- Tap the 3 dots next to the server name.
- Scroll down to find “Members.”
- You will see how many users are on the server immediately.
Add any bot with member count commands
You can add any bot on Discord for Android to a server that you manage. Once you have the rights, adding the bot is a simple matter. That is how:
- Make sure you have permission to add Discord bots to your server.
- Go to the website of the bot you want to add.
- Tap the button to invite the bot.
- Choose the server to extend an invitation to the bot.
- Give the bot the permissions it needs.
- Tap “Authorize.”
- Perform any configuration procedure, following the prompts.
- Enter a command if necessary.
With bots, you can check the number of members any time you want. Even other members of your server can do it if you let them.
For the 3,000 members
Discord server owners may be curious about the population of their servers. While Discord makes it easy to find on Android and iOS, the process is a little more challenging on PC. Still, with the right bots, controlling member count is very easy.
