Announced at WWDC in June 2024, the new iPadOS 18 brings some highly anticipated and exciting features for iPad users. The latest version gets all the major changes from iOS 18, plus some exciting Apple Intelligence features. These include support for AI on-device and in the cloud, new ways to interact with Siri, a new Passwords app, a redesigned Photos app, and finally a Calculator app (yes, finally). Here are all the supported devices that will get the new iPadOS 18 update.
iPadOS 18 Compatibility: List of Supported iPads
iPads with the Apple M chip will be able to run iPadOS 18 alongside some older models with older A-series chips. However, the availability of some features may be limited on iPads with A-series chips.

With AI features built into the device, it’s possible that Apple will limit some features on iPads that don’t run on an M1 chip or newer. The list above confirms that iPadOS 18 won’t be coming to the 2018 iPad and 2017 iPad Pro, so iPadOS 17 will be the last major update available for those models.
When will iPadOS 18 be released?
The developer beta of iPadOS 18 was made available immediately after the WWDC keynote on June 10, 2024. The stable version of iPadOS 18 is expected to be released on September 16, 2024, alongside iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia 15.
